Mara Danes Puppy Information

We have partnered with Good Dog, who awarded us with a Responsible Breeder Badge as well as Preferred Breeder since 2022. The Good Dog Platform is relatively new, however, if you are unfamiliar with it, please take the time to become familiar. Not only does Good Dog demand humane breeding practices, they also encourage health testing in breeding dogs. Their platform handles our applications and transactions. Additionally, each puppy has an individual page where pictures and videos are updated weekly, at a minimum. Each puppies page has their individual information such as price, temperament, pedigree, etc. 

Here at Mara Danes, we strive to improve the health of the dogs in our program as well as future generations of Danes. That starts with a strict vision of selective breeding, closely followed by both health and temperament testing. You can be sure that your puppy is from parents who have been well bred, raised properly, fully assessed and well evaluated before being approved into our program. 

While the standard in our industry is a 2 year coverage on health and genetic issues, here at Mara Danes, we cover our puppies for their entire lifetime. Additionally, as is standard with any good breeder, all puppies go home on a return contract as well. If at any point in your puppy's life you are not able to keep them, they must return to us. Our goal is to keep every puppy safe in a home and to eliminate the possibility of our puppies ending up in shelters or rescues. Your puppy is microchipped with you as the owner and me as the alternate. I would be happy to go over our contract with anyone who has questions. 

We have a checklist of socialization that is very special to us. I constantly get compliments on how well adjusted our puppies are when they get to their new homes. While there is a genetic component, early socialization is also a huge contributor to producing a well rounded and balanced dog. In your puppy packet you will receive a copy of our checklist which highlights the age appropriate socialization your puppy has experienced. I also document socialization with pictures and videos that are shared with each owner and/or shared on our Good Dog page. 

Ideally, each family would come here to Mara Danes to pick up their puppy and get the chance to have a sit down with me, go over puppy packet paperwork and go over any questions. Distance and schedules can make this difficult for some families. We allow puppies to be shipped via airline cargo during the months that are not excessive in heat or cold. Ground transportation is also an option and when possible, I prefer to transport them myself. Shipping costs are the responsibility of the new owner. We offer board and train services to our puppy owners that emphasize behaviors that will be needed in their new home. There are many reasons families decide on additional training. Some families have active lives and need a puppy who has the fundamentals to dive right into that lifestyle. Some families are new to puppy ownership and need a little help with the training basics. The goal is to invest a little more one on one and train as they grow and are able to learn skills that make their transition to their new home easier.
